Wow, I feel REALLY silly for not posting anything in so long. it's funny to look at my journal entries and see some are about the Mechacon from LAST YEAR.

This one came and went much to fast for me, but it was quite a memorable experience, among other things!

A big reason why I haven't posted ANYTHING at all for so long is that your little Shader is a college girl now, and it has pretty much monopolized much of my time. Between the craziness of my first day, to the new club I joined there, and the craziness of actually passing my first year, it's much more chaoti than I'd like to try and fit into one journal entry. (or even several)

Just know that I'm doing fine, and switching my major to Film was one of the best ideas I've ever had. I love it so much, I can't imagine me doing anything else right now. I've worked on student films, and learned to use all kids of cool equipment, and I've learned and taught myself all kids of wicked techniques for gore props!

Yes, yes, little Shader likes the gorier aspects of the movie biz. Pretty funny, coming from a girl who cannot sit through Dawn of the Dead, Saw, or most other slasher films. I could work on them, but you wouldn't see me at the premiere. XD


So, onto Mechacon V!

Putting my expertize in the gutsy and gorey to good use, I came up with a rather unusual but known cosplay. I was... sort of a zombie version of Aerith from Final Fantasy. Just think of it as if what might happen if the Shinra company did some work with the Umbrella Corporation and you got my cosplay.

Now, it wasn't just something like, "Oh I'll get clothes like her, dirty them up and put a little splash of fake blood on it!"

Hell to the no. If you know me, I don't like to half-ass a lot of things, and this was one I wasn't going to half ass one bit. I'd been working on it for a few months now, most of which was just hunting down the proper clothes in a thrift store. Once i had then, I set to work with messing them up. That was fun, I shredded the bottom of the pink dress and doused it with wet dirt from my own backyard, and did the same with the coat. I had a bottle of fake blood sitting up in my closet left over from a student film, and I tried it out. It gave the pink cloth a nice red rinse, but wasn't anything like what I wanted, so I made my own!

I have this kickass home recipe for fake blood, and let me tell you, ti worked out loads better than the store bought crap, that stuff was a waste of five bucks!

So I had my zombie-ish costume, the fake blood, and even make up to complete the look along with a basket of dead flowers... but somehting was missing, I needed something to make it truly memorable.

So... I took one of the most tragic deaths in the Final Fantasy series... and I made it kinda funny.

I made my own thru and thru Masamune.

Whipped together using a couple of toy katanas, spray paint, hot glue, and lots of fake blood, I gave my costume the illusion of a freshly stabbed zombie. It was truly epic! That and it had a little tag claiming ownership tied to the handle. Seriously, it read "Property of: SEPHIROTH. If found, please return to Midgar."

I loved it, and I was surprised with how much other people did, too. I was a big hit with some Bleach cosplayers, and their Komamura cosplayer insisted on getting a picture with "The dead chick". I even had a few people take pictures while they were pulling on it, I sort of know what the sword in the stone felt like after that. XD

And man, when I actually ran into a couple of Cloud, Zack and Sephiroths, the lulz were well worth the suffering up having to shove contacts into my eyes.

And I bought lots of crap, really. XD I'm so bad with money at Cons. I bought playarts stuff, keychains, everything! For some reason they had to take down all the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts stuff, and that really got me down, I really wanted to get a new plushie! DX

But all in all, it was an epic Con. I'm not really the biggest fan of Vic Micnogna, but I still got his autograph for a friend and took a picture with him to prove to another I really met him. He's pretty nice in real life, and very anthusiastic with his fans.

Bah... I really should include more, and I shall! Really! I swear it's not going to be months before I update again...
